Curious to read about your final outcome. I traveled the same road as you back in the spring.replaced oil cooler, flushed coolant system. cleaned turbo, etc. Like yourself, when I flushed my block I saw no increase in flow from the block drain with an increase of RPM. After I had everything back together I was experiencing high temps while towing(220 or above). I was thinking failing water pump just like you but first I tried the blue wire mod on the fan clutch. If I turn that on my temps stay under 200 no matter where I am hauling. Now I'm thinking my w/pump is fine. Seems to me if the heat problem was from lack of flow, increasing cooling thru radiator with the fan wouldn't really help that much. Either way I hope all your work solves your problems.

Thanks, GP. First, I'd tell you that I'm not the best "role model." Lol. My username is well deserved.

Just this morning I got the turbo out to find that the mount is only held down by one lose bolt. That bolt I entioned seeing above was one of the others and not one off the pump cover. I expect to find the last ones under the intake when I get it off. I was really struggling in Arkansas with hand cramps and apparently didnt/couldn't crank them down enough. Also found a loose valve cover bolt, and not the one I remembered not being able to tighten. And the intake bolts weren't uniformly tight, some were easier to remove than other's. SMH

I guess I should be glad the truck held together this long. Plan to do better this time. Go slower, borrow a torque wrench from the auto parts store.

It started raining so I had to quit for now.

Got the turbo and mount out. My valley is a puddle of oil. I expect that's the source of my leaks on all sides.

Started raining before I got the intake off so I haven't confirmed where the leak is. First suspect is the turbo up tube. The mount only had one lose bolt holding it on, and Razzie's IDS said the turbo is sticking. However it looked dry around the top. Maybe coming out down by the pump.

The pump cover bolts that I can see are still in place. When I get the intake off I'll confirm it's sealed.

The turbo itself doesn't seem to have any play in the shaft or nicks on either impeller. Could it simply have been the loose mount causing it to stick? I'll have it rebuilt anyway while it's out. Could all that oil be coming out of the turbo itself rather than the drain tube? I don't get any smoke out the exhaust.

Can oil come out of the intake gaskets? Otherwise, it'd have to be the oil cooler housing, but I've never messed with it.

Questions: do I need to drain the oil before taking the filter housing off, or just remove the filter?

Any tips on how to get the bolt holding the heat shield to the back of the head? I prolly asked this when I took it out in Arkansas and never could get it back in. Maybe just need to find someone with tiny hands and long fingers - a tall toddler!
