header questions

Am rebuilding a 351M into a 400 and would like to run headers rather than stock manifolds. Is this dumb to do? I am hoping for more HP, torque, MPG, etc. What are the positives and negatives to running headers? What brand/type/style of headers is recommended for 400? Am also planning on using Flowmaster brand of muffer on dual exhaust. Which Flowmaster muffler works (and sounds the best) for this application. Am looking for a deeper exhaust sound than stock mufflers.

Thanks!
Eric

i am running hooker compition headers, they have been working great, don't expect a ton of hp from headers, but that with your dual exhust should improve the flow. the down side is be careful when first installed, i found a few loose bolts after only a few miles and a few hours of idleing. check them often at first and then after awhile you can let them go once they settle. other than that there aren't much in the way of negatives. some brands i have heard rust from the inside out. one more thing to consider, the painted ones heat the engine bay up, so if you can afford it go with ceramic coated. otherwise buy the heat rap for it.

oh and another thing, go with magniflow mufflers. much better flowing, better deep sound, and lifetime warrany. sounds great with headers.
