carb problems
I have a small carb problem, I have a 1988 Ford Ranger that I just bought. The previous owner had removed the pollution system from the truck and the carb has all these small rubber hoses coming from all over the carb and they are plugged off with screws or fuses. The truck is running rough and doesn't idle like it should. I don't know where the lines are to be hooked to. There is no Ford dealer here so I have to do this on my own.
So I would like to know if there is a plain-jane carb I can put inplace of this funny looking carb that is on it. I need to know the if I can use a older style carb from a 2.0L, maybe a pinto, mustang or any other Fords. If so let me know the type of carb to find.
Thanks Mark
Hi jokerwallace;
Welcome to the FTE Family! NO WAY! on the new / old type carb excahnge! Emission Laws are getting more strict every year (in CT + Mass, it's a bear to get your car through). Look under the hood, usually there is a pictorial diagram showing where the vacuum lines connect to. If you need more info go to this section:Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums > Misc. > Fuel Injection, Carburetion and Fuel System
and repost your carb. delema.
Happy Hunting!

Here a Canada the emission control has not come in force at this time, when it does I will work the problem out. I use the truck to get me to and from work only nothing else as we also own a 2003 windstar van for travels. I didn't see the picture as the front has been replaced, so no info on it. That is way I'm looking to find what other type of carb I could replace it with. Thanks again Wolfen.
