I recently bought a 1991 F-150 standard cab, LWB, 4X4, 5.0 V8, 5 speed transmission, with 108K miles. It does have helper springs on the rear. It looks like the original owner hauled a camper. I'm the third owner, so I'm looking at old paperwork left in the glove compartment, and I see where camper tiedowns were installed. The truck doesn't appear to have been lifted, although it does sit up a few inches higher than most other stock trucks. It could have a heavy-duty stock suspension, since the first owner intended it to haul a camper? It has 31x10.5x15 tires.
The truck does NOT have a stabilier bar on the front or rear, not that I can see, and does NOT have a steering stabilier. The truck currently rides fairly good and I've not experienced any wander in the steering.
I will be using it mostly on the street, with occasional light/medium duty off-road use. Don't plan to any serious rock climbing or heavy-duty off-roading.
I assume that adding a stabilizer bar on front suspension, and on the rear axle, and a steering stabilizer would be good.
Please educate me before I spend the time and money. Like most people I know, I have more time than money.
I would definetly add one to the front, if you are not loading heavy on the rear much, I would not bother with the rear. But the front will help with every day driving.
