Right offset to avoid rock chips
So I recently put some Falken Wildpeak 315/70R17's on my stock 16' F250 (will be receiving a lift soon) I also now have my front mud flaps on as well. I love the look of the rims and they have a -6 offset however the tires stick out a few inches past my fenders. I do drive a lot of gravel and it kills me taking my truck on it due to the rock chips. I've started getting some small rock chips but my truck is near mint and I want to keep it clean for the time being. I would prefer not to do flares so my question is what are some guys running for + offset wheels?
I understand the stock offset is +40 however does anyone run positive offset rims and how much do they stick out?
Also Im from the 48-56 forum so I am new to this part of the site!
Thanks in advance,
Sam
Your new -6 rims are pushing the outter rim of the wheel out 46mm more than stock. 40mm + 6MM = 46mm or about 1 7/8".
Dividing half of the width of the new tire compared to the old tire (315-275?)/2 = 20mm or about 3/4"
1 7/8" + 3/4" = 2 5/8"
So, your new tire sidewalls stick out 2 5/8" more than the stock ones. If you were to go back to a 40mm wheel, it would pull the sidewalls in 46mm or you could do a 18-20mm offset and pull the in about 25mm or 1".
