Degas bottle puking

The EGR delete is leaking again too. This has never happened before. We did have frost this morning, if that makes a difference. Is there any cause other than head gaskets? What should I check?

if it were me, i’d stick a new pressure cap on first. simple and cheap fix if that’s the problem

Did you add coolant recently? You really shouldn’t see more than 8-10psi and once vented it shouldn’t build up again.

Haven't added coolant in a long time. And what's left in the bottle looks nice and clear and red. There was still pressure when I popped the cap off.

Overfilling can be another cause. Some have had problems with the degas bottle itself having a rough mating surface for the cap.

I typically keep it below the bottom of the sticker on the bottle. The bottle is two years old. I'm sure if it had a problem it would have revealed itself by now.

A bad cap won’t cause puking, it should never build enough pressure to puke unless there’s an issue.
you need to install a coolant pressure gauge and see more clearly what’s going on.

Yay, another gauge...

Ok, let's say I installed one. What scenarios should I be looking for, since I don't know what normal operation looks like, having never had one before?

Start the truck and let it warm up to operating temperature then vent degas cap and go drive it. Romp it hard and if your coolant pressure spikes to 16-18 then vents as you accelerate you most likely have one or both head gaskets leaking compression into the coolant.

Just ordered GlowShift's dual pressure gauge set-up. Will chime back in when I have some results. Thanks Smack!

I made my own pressure line and manual gauge with a few stainless fittings, some poly line and a 30psi WIKA gauge with a little ball valve. Much cheaper than a permanent coolant pressure gauge.

No, you need a decent fluid compatible gauge.

No puke on the way home, mostly highway, so I guess that's good.

Both sides were washed out between cylinders.
I drove over 30k with slightly compromised head gaskets and could only make it puke if I really got on it hard. I don’t recommend this, they could have let go at any time and done real damage. Get the gauge so you can monitor and be sure!
