I'm finishing up a 1970 428 cj that came with no crank or water pump pulleys. I have pulleys from a 1972 360 truck engine but don't know about the diameter requirement for the 428 and would rather leave the 360 together. CVF aftermarket pulleys are advertised as under drive or over drive. Could this lead to rpm issues with either the water pump or, more importantly, the alternator?
Thanks
Is there a reason not to use actual Ford pulleys? They are readily available still and any FE pulley will work. I would suggest that you stick with one style of bracketry throughout because mixing can cause belt alignment issues. I have a 69 F-250 with a 360 and all the accessories, as well as a 69 Mach 1 Cobrajet with all the accessories if you need pictures of the pulleys and brackets.
BTW, I have a perfect 3-sheave Crank Pulley and several brackets. PM if interested.
Mach428, thank you. I am interested in purchasing the crank pulley you offered. Matching numbers for the engine are not important. I am not knowledgeable with pulley specs so I don't know which ones would or wouldn't work. C8AZ-6A312-D is what I know will work but what I don't know is what other ones will also work. 2-sheave or more is what I need. Water pump pulleys seem to be much easier to get hold of.
PM me if you would like to sell the pulley
Thank you
As far as diameter, I prefer to keep my crank pulley at least as big as my water pump pulley or a little bigger. I had a smaller pulley on the crank for a short while. Truck would warm a little idling and the wipers would slow down at idle with the headlights on.
65Ford is on the Money, Accessory Speed is Important when Engine is @ Idle and Spooled Up, Alt and Water Pump Speed is Hardly giving a thought about on most Build's, Then they will be Screaming about running Hot and Alt is to Small.
Thanks for the good info everyone. I'm glad I asked before I went further and ended up with problems. I'm probably going to buy the crank pulley Mach428 offered me.
I try to use the search forums bar but never seem to find what I'm after. Then when I ask the question on google it brings me to past threads here that turn out to answer my question.
Not being computer savvy is my own fault.
