Has anyone put 02/03 wheels on a 2001 and older Explorer. I have a 97 Limited. What I've found is that the bolt pattern is the same, but the offset on the 97 is about 20mm and the offset on the 02/03's is about 32mm, or about 1/2" closer to the inside.
Just wondering if anyone has done it and if there were any rubbing problems. Also, couldn't one just put some spacers in to move the wheel back out, or would the tire stick outside the fender then?
As long as the bolt pattern is the same, you should be fine. I am running Cobra R's (17x9), but I don't know the inset space - but it is farther in than a stock wheel.
I am not a fan of spacers, but they would work if it gets too close for your comfort!

i have seen older explorers with the new rims on them but i am not sure how they did it. the only way to be sure is to test fit one. you might have to run a lower profile tire. putting spacers in isnt the best idea you'll end up having to replace everything in the front suspension in no time at all.
