American Force vs Specialty Forged

Does anyone have any experience with either American Force Wheels or Specialty Forged wheels. Had a local shop tell me that American Force have been known to bend but Specialty Forged are ALOT more money! I’m going to run a 22x12 wheel on my 2018 Super Duty. Need input please!

I personally don’t know the products. But I would only consider forged, no matter what you buy. Forging hammers out all imperfections from the aluminum. Forged wheels are a LOT stronger than cast, they give where cast breaks, and can take a beating.

^^^This. If you plan to build a brodozer, cast are fine. If you plan on using it as a tow rig and possibly every towing heavy, you need forged as cast are known to bend under load. Burned through several myself and learned that lesson.

Something cast can be just as strong as something forged. It all depends on the quality of materials used and the processes they use to cast or forge the product.

Oh I’m definitely using a Forged wheel but I need to know if there are any preferences to American Force, Fuel Forged or Specialty Forged wheels? I do tow a lot

So are superduties with factory wheels brodozers and not meant to be used as a tow rig?

Absolutely NOT true..
Cast is just what it is, and that’s molten aluminum poured into a mold to cool. Cast is commonly used simply because it’s cheap. Heat it up, cast it, boom, you made a cheap wheel.

Lots more work goes into a forged aluminum wheel. High quality forged wheels are usually cut from a solid block of forged T6061 aluminum.
Forged aluminum, like forged steel is usually hammered under 5,000 lbs of pressure to smash out all air pockets and imperfections in the metal, leaving a condensed, stronger and more pure product.
Forged wheels also have a finish that’s definitely more refined, where cast looks like, well...cast.

looking at his other post I would assume brodozer is the goal. I have -44 wheels and dislike them, I wasn't going for a brodozer and I will change them out when I have more money to sell and get something different.

Haha, yes, don’t tow with stock wheels.
Cast is fine, especially with big tires to cushion the impact. Ford used to use forged as OEM, but I’m sure the bean counters got in the way.
But if someone is going to spring for new wheels, why buy crap when you can get the strength and finish of forged.

If the truck is already rated to tow up to a certain capacity and you stay within that range...why can't the wheels handle it?

I've had my AF wheels for about 4 or 5 years now. No issues to date. 22x10s with 325/50s. In fact, I just put a new set of tires on about a month ago, and everything balanced really well with very few weights.

My question, too...as the new owner of a slightly used '18 STX gasser that came with 18-inch silver cast wheels, this thread made me wonder if I should upgrade to forged as I do tow on occasion.

Sorry, OP, for the derail!

Not unless you're just wanting to.... The OEM wheels are rated for the loads the truck is rated for. When was the last time you saw a f250 sitting on the side of the road with a wheel failure?

Unless you're running a huge negative offset on a crazy low profile tire, like this.....

a cast wheel is fine (assuming it's made by a reputable manufacturer, the truck is being operated within it's designed parameters, etc., etc.). There are a lot of guys running the Baja 1000, KOH, and even rock bouncing on cast aluminum Racelines, Methods, etc. without failures. AND, they're operating in conditions (1000+ HP, 43" tires with sticky compounds, 100+ mph speeds, rocks the size of small cars, etc.) that one of our trucks is never going to see.
