Drive shaft, u-joint issues.

I've got a 2004 f150 fx4 that I bought already lifted, it's a 6 in with 325/65 18s. I had some bad u-joints so I went to the local parts store, they gave me the ones that were listed but they didn't fit, so I went back and they gave me another. The caps fit but the center portion was not wide enough so It slops back and forth. I believe the previous owner had a special drive shaft made to compensate for the lift, but now I cant figure out what u- joint I need. Does anyone have a clue as to how I can get the proper u-joints. There is a sticker on the drive shaft, with numbers, but I can't tell you what they mean. Any help would be appreciated.

Measure the old U-joint and take the measurements to the auto-parts store with you.

Like how far across, bearing cap diameters, etc.

This is a picture of a u-joint in the rear of my trike just as an example. It's a Ford Big Cap style 1310 series. The two caps that are secured by the straps are thicker with same rollers inside as smaller caps. Note: 1.125" is 1-1/8 while 1.0163" (actually, 1.01625") is near to 1-1/16".
Cross trunions are all four the same. Also, note grooves for inside retainers (ISR) or outside retainers (OSR).

If you have transportation other than the truck, it's often best to take old U-joint & caps … or even the whole driveshaft (maybe wrapped in a towel) … with you. Maybe you have a buddy or GF or etc who can drive you?
