A mercury question.

Recently I acquired a few bits and pieces, including a pair of headlight buckets made of aluminum. I'm told that they are from an early Mercury M3 truck. They look the same shape etc, as the ones from my 51F1 . These are stamped with the Number FSB-48....does that mean anything to anyone?
Thanks for your response.

I don't know about the number stamping but I believe some of the 48 to 50 ford trucks used the aluminum buckets. Not sure when they went to metal.
Ive got a few of the aluminum ones and I know they came on some early ford trucks so im sure the early mercurys could/would have had them as well.

They may have come from a Mercury truck, but they are not unique to Mercury trucks. The same part would have been used on both Fords and Mercurys. Aluminum buckets are not rare.

I don't remember what the FSB stands for, exactly, but it is a code for lamp parts. You see similar codes on lenses, and they do have a meaning. The 48 does mean it was first used in 1948. You can easily date lamp lenses with this, and if you know how to decipher the letter parts of the code, it will tell you what the part came from. It's a lengthy list.

A mercury question.

Thanks all for your replies. I didn't think that I had something rare, or valuable. Just wondering, is all.
Anyone looking for a couple of M3 badges, or stainless indicator trim?
Geoff.
