There were no 1998 Ford F250 HD or F350's produced. They went directly from the 1997 model year to the 1999. There was an F250 Light Duty made in 1998, but it was basically an F150 with what is now the 7700GVWR package. There was not a diesel available in that pickup. I'm not implying that there was a non-PSD available because there wasn't. There simply wasn't a 1998 model year for these trucks.

Ohhh, I did not know that. That's interesting, I bet people freaked out when there wasn't a big diesel for sale in 98. Unless everybody knew about the 99 and were going to wait for that one anyway. Didn't Corvette do the same thing in the early 80's....they completely skipped one year I think.
I have a "99" PSD with the 7.3L that was manufactured in Aug. of 98, and it runs great and love it. It's a manual with the ZF-6 tranny. A 99 was manufactured on or before mid December 98. A 99.5 covers all of the 1999 manufacture year.
As far as hp and torque, I think stock for 99's is either 235 or 250 hp, and I'm not sure about torque. Search in this forum under torque, and I'm sure you can find it.
Hopefully you can find out about the prior maintenance done, and get ready for some fun and spending plenty of moolah (all consensual of course).
My F-250 Super Duty 4X4 PSD was manufactured 12/98 and sold as a 1999. It does everything I ned it to do. I did part the tranfer case chain in 2000 and it was replaced under warranty. I am a little more light footed in low range 4WD, now.

They really didn't have a time when there wasn't a PSD for sale. They sold 1997 model year trucks into 1998 and then started selling the 1999's (in 1998).
Well I bought the thing on Friday in Texas just arrived home with it, 1,100 miles around 14.5 -15 mpg. Diesel was only $1.35 or so in most of Texas and a $1.49 here in Arizona. So far so good nice powerful truck even though the miles are a tad high. We'll see how it goes.
