Hi , not sure what to do next, I have a 01 f250 V10, new alternator new battery, headlights pulse with the voltage 15.5 to 16.1 volts have tried different battery and voltage regulator, and have tried same battery in a 03 crown vic which charged at 14 volts, what controls charging rate, I have been through all the ground wires under the hood still over charging grounding alt to battery no help
Verify all grounds are good for all the components we are discussing.
clean both ends of the battery cables and the smaller ground wires throughout he system the engine bay etc....
Bad grounds can cause transient voltage spikes or draws which will wreak havoc in modern electronics,
A bad ground connection between the engine block and the body is one of the things that will cause the alternator to put out high voltage. You could try using a jumper wire to test this possibility and confirm or eliminate it as a possibility.
