What size are the two bolts that go into the tailgate handle from the bed side. Mine are missing and I didn’t want to have to disassemble the whole
thing to take it somewhere and try a bunch out. Thanks in advance.

What year is the tailgate? Do you lift the handle up to open the tail gate (1973/79), or is it hanged on the right side (1964/72)?
1973/79 has bolts inside the tailgate. 1964/72: The tailgate mounting plate bolts that the handle fits into are on the front of the gate.
lIts a 1970, the handle plate has the normal 4 screw front side but there are also two that are threaded from the bed side. They aren't really discussed anywhere and seem redundant but mine are missing nonetheless. If you look at an image of the plate they are the beefed up metal sections behind where the handle would be.

Definitely not it, its a good bit smaller than a quarter-20. I need to buys a bolt size tester kit or something.
Look at the pic, it shows the bolt part number 359294-S and I listed the size.
So, if it ain't it, you have a 1973/79 tailgate, because 1964/66 F100/250 2WD; 1966 F100 4WD and 1967/72 F100/350 Styleside tailgates use the exact same parts: latches, handle, supports, hardware, the whole shebang.
The only difference is that the 1967/72 tailgate looks slightly different than the 1964/66 tailgate, EVERYTHING else is the same.

I appreciate the help, ill have to mess around until it figure it out i suppose. For what its worth, its definitely a 1970 tailgate, i went and got a 1/4-20 x half inch per the parts diagram but its way too large. You can see the holes in the mounting plate are not very large. I cant account for why that may be, but in my case it is. It is a ranger xlt but id assume the plate would be the same. Anyway thanks for the advice. ill report back if i figure it out. Also per the autorestomod video where he changes all his out he says they are more or less unobtanium specialty fasteners.
Same mounting plate, same handle, same tailgate latches, same tailgate supports, rods, clips, yadda yadda yadda: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD, 1966 F100 4WD, 1967/72 F100/350.

just checking if you found out what type bolts they’re are. I’m missing the four from outside the bed and the two from inside the bed.
