steering box swap?
I have a '77 F-250 Trailer Special with a 460/C6 combination. It currently has headers and a 2 1/2in. exhaust with Flowmasters, dual to the rear. I am wondering if you all know of a steering box that has a tighter ratio than the original. I'll be pulling the engine soon and rebuilding it to something that will shut down all the honda and subaru racers I have on my street, along the lines of 545c.i. 10.5/1 compression with Pro Comp aluminum heads and a Jeg's 8-stack fuel injection in front of a 5-speed automatic. Tired of hearing them at midnight and thought some real HP might shut them up!LOL But I'm looking for a more responsive steering box to put in while I have the engine out. Thanks for the help with this.
Red head: Our re-manufacturing process:
Machining out the housings and installing needle bearings
Flame-spraying or replacing the shafts as needed. Installing new control valves on some applications
Custom fitting each worm & piston assembly with special ordered, precise over-sized ball bearings.
Other things we do to produce a top quality product include:
Install every sector shaft on a lathe to check for straight and true
Polish the sealing surface to a higher polish than new.
Blue Top does pretty much the same thing.
If you want a quick ratio (more responsive) steering box you might have to get a specialized racing (think stock car) shop to set that up for you. This place offers a fast ratio gearbox conversion. Not sure if they do it for Ford trucks. PowerSteering.com

That place managed to locate me a very hard to locate old "71" Bronco p/s box (after I split my housing) and swapped all the guts and did a rebuild job in a day or 2 for a great price.
