Question Drip rail question

Getting ready to have cab media blasted. Thinking of modifying or removing drip rail. my cab is solid around rail but has a few places that rail is rusted thru on outermost edge if this makes sense. My question is would it be wise to use body saw and remove outer lip of drip rail before I have cab media blasted ? Thinking this will allow all surfaces to be blasted clean and then I can choose how I want to alter, remove or maybe even reattach the rail. I've searched many posts on here for pics and seen some really cool ones guys have done. Would appreciate any feedback and pics if possible. Thanks Mark.

Hey Mark... my rail was good in most areas but had some rust problems. I choose to fill mine for a smoother look. Removing them is a pretty big project since there are three pieces of metal that come together at that line. You need to be good with welder, hammer and dolly and filler. I think there are several guys on here that have done it.. It was too daunting for me. Here's mine

first pass was kitty hair

second pass was body filler

and finally primer and paint...just realized I don't have a pic of final product but here's a close up of
the rail ready for primer

While I am personally not a fan of shaving drip rails, I have done a few trucks for others. The red cab appears to be similar to John's in the style of the drip rail fill. The green cab however has the rails completely removed, shaved flush with the skin of the cab. The section over the windshield stands out since there is now a smooth transition from the glass to the roof. Since the drip rail itself is sandwiched in between the roof panel and the door jamb, it is a fairly major job to replace the rail correctly.

sorry if I should no this but what year cab are you dealing with?
48-52 cabs can hide the drip rail removal better then the 53- in my humble opinion.

thanks for the replies. Sorry it's a 1954. That's what I was thinking of not completely shaving it off just changing the contour of it. I'll try to post some pics of it.

Mark, mine was damaged the same way, same place. It was caused by ;lifting the cab off the frame with a nylon strap and a cherry picker. Did a little welding and grinding till straight again, then filled it. The next few lifts were done with chains bolted to the floor at the corners and cherry picker.. less strain that way.
