I was doing some work and just noticed a black hose box sitting in the bottom of my engine bay. There’s one hose running to the carb and another one that’s been disconnected. I’m not really sure what it is and was wondering if anyone could answer. Not very knowledgeable on ford trucks and didn’t even notice when I started the project lol

What year is the truck, what series and engine? What does this "hose box" look like, is it round steel, or rectangular plastic, or?
Well I read the title "hose box" and immediately thought of my ex. But like he said - year, series, engine, size and shape would be helpful. Photo would be better. Without any information my first guess would be charcoal canister.

It's a charcoal canister. It is meant to condense fuel vapors from your fuel tanks and carb float bowl. It's sort of important. It's a little difficult to find good info on how these are meant to be hooked to vacuum. There is a long vacuum line from the fuel tanks that hooks to it using a T at the canister. There is also a 3/8" hose that goes to the carb bowl to vent it. In between the charcoal canister and the carb, there is a 1 way check valve, and you need a vacuum source hooked up either behind or in front of the check valve through a T. I can take a pic of what I have hooked up, and it seems to work right, but who knows. The operation of these charcoal canisters is identical to Dodges, and so I used a diagram from my Dodge manual, because I did all the emissions deletes. I'll bring a pic later tonight.
You can see the red tube hooked to the vacuum manifold, then the valve, then the vacuum line going to the carb, then it hooks to the charcoal canister, and you should see the smaller line running to the fuel tanks.
