They do have an EBP sensor, but a later PCM flash eliminated the sensor input from the turbo operation (called the 06E17 flash, or inferred EBP flash). That flash causes the EBP to be inferred from primarily the MAF sensor.

I don't have another 6.0L to compare to, but compared to my 7.3, this thing has way more power overall. As far as I know, mine has never been tuned but I couldn't tell ya for sure. How do I tell that?

So, what kind of questions do I need to be finding the answers to? The previous owner is of no help, he owned it less than a year and only drove it probably 2,000 miles in that year.

The easiest way I know of to see if it has a tune on it with out paying, is take a tuner if ya have access to one.
Set the vehicle that the tuner is being used on back to stock. That will free up the tuner for use on another vehicle.
Plug it in to your truck. It will tell you right away if there is a tune on your truck. You won't be able to do anything as far as tunes go, on it. You will need to get a reflash.

The 03's that have been re-flashed (and most have been) have an EBP sensor, but don't use it.

Boot was the first thing that caught my eye also. Altenator second. Looks stock and at your mileage, probably needs replaced. Are you monitoring critical pids? My battery alarm started yelling at me on the highway so I knew it was time for an altenator. Defenitely want to keep an eye on it. Ed has some good info on altenators and batteries on his very informative site.

So.... Is there anything I should do about that?

Thanks for that reference. I'll be looking into his website and doing my research.

I don't have a means to monitor pids (not sure what that stands for honestly). I bought a ScanGauge II recently but it doesn't seem to want to sync to the truck properly. I should be able to monitor FICM voltage using it but I can't seem to find the setting.

I've read that 150,000 miles is about when the original alternators will go out, which is coming up very soon for me! Looking at the 190 amp DC Power one on that website there...

I wouldn't think so, you have a new sensor.

OBD-II PIDs - Wikipedia

I bought a ScanGauge II recently but it doesn't seem to want to sync to the truck properly. I should be able to monitor FICM voltage using it but I can't seem to find the setting. Should be some threads or somebody here to help you with that. If you don't get anything here, try starting a new thread. Sorry I cant help, Edge kind of guy.

Thats what I got and really like it. Noticed it really helps with the glow plug cycle drain on the batteries.

How does the alternator help with battery drain when the truck isn't running? You mean the battery recharges faster?

It doesn't. When you start yur truck the glow plugs stay on for short period of time drawing 230 amps. Thats why some go with the 230 amp alt and cable upgrade. The alternator will offset this, if its output is large enough. My battery alarm would go off until the gp cycle was done with the stock alt. It no longer does that with the 190 amp alt.

Oh I didn't know the plugs stayed on for a while after. I've never had the battery alarm to off, ever. And I'm sure the alternator is stock... So I don't believe it's necessary at all for me to upgrade currently, but I'm planning to accessorize my truck over time with stuff like a winch, work lights, air compressor, 110 plugs for power tools etc. So it's gotta happen eventually.

Ah gotcha. I'm running stock, no tuner/programmer. Not monitoring anything except the lights on the dash lol
