I think I’m going to order the starter that was linked above and hope that it relieves the issue. I started it today and sometimes it wouldn’t even engage the flexplate correctly. So it has to fixed soon haha. I’ll let you know if it works when j get the part. Fingers crossed
Thanks for the link. This might be a dumb question but, with this starter do you no longer use the solenoid that’s attached on the passenger side under the hood?
You leave the starter solenoid and use that as a the relay to trigger the solenoid on the starter. The starter positive is just move the the constant hot side. Lots of later fords were set up this way.

Okay got it. Part is supposed to be here this Friday so I’ll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for all the help!

Any questions just post them up and I can guide you through it easily. The only thing you should make sure of is that you have a correct length and gauge battery cable to go from the battery side of the old starter solenoid to the battery side of the new starter solenoid. You will also need a 10ga wire with ring terminals in the correct length from the old starter terminal output (this terminal used to feed the starter) to the new starter solenoid.
they made 2 different starter drive gears that engage the flexplate a 9 tooth and a 10 for some reasons the parts stores dont catch this i bet your using a 9 instead of a10 tooth it will clank and grind and fail early.
Got the part in, got new cables, put heat shields over the starter and cables. Cranked it over and nothing. Just the starter gear spinning. On to the next possible cause I’m guessing is the flex plate. I don’t know when or if ever it was replaced. Gunna get a new one of those and see how it goes.
Sounds like something is hooked up wrong and the solenoid isn't pulling the starter drive back into the flywheel.
I don't like the way they recommend the wiring done making the cable to the starter constant hot, and adding another wire to activate the starter.
429/460's used a solenoid mounted starter, keep the relay wired like all other Ford starters and simply added a jumper at the starter connecting the hot cable to the start post, when you activated the Ford rely it sent power to the starters hot post and start post at the same time
So a little update. Transmission is mounted with new flex plate and new starter. It cranks it over well and I don’t hear and grinding at all. It’s currently open exhaust manifold as I had to drop the pipes to fit the transmission.

Okay finally I think everything is finished. New starter cranks the engine over every time and starts it. Every so often it’ll make a high pitched squeak when starting. It somewhat rare but it does happen. I am at a loss as to what that could be. And suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
