Well, I was going to drop the transmission on my truck after the clutch friend (along with the throwout bearing).
As I was doing everying to drop the tranmission I noticed a piece of clutch siticking out between the bell housing and the engine, so I figured I had really fried it.
So i was able to take off the 4wd shifter alright, but the regular one for my 4 speed, I could do it.
I took off the boot and stuff and theres a ball inside a collar, and its got a notch in it.
Theres a pin going through the side of the collar, through the ball and out the other end, its totally round, with no space for hex keys or anything.
So how do i remove my shifter (that stick comming out of my transmission if i didnt use the right term)?
I've tried pressing that ball down and stuff. Anybody know?
White 1981 Ford F-350. with a 400m and the 4 speed that came in it. I dont hvae a good manual and the chiltons book i ahve sucks and it doesnt even mention it. I've been hung up for a week on it and i'm mad that something so small can cause me so much grief!
That dang shift collar flew apart on me in the middle of traffic and I pulled the shifter right out of the floor. Well I stuck the shifter in and carefully drove home. Anyway it must have took me 10 trys and a couple hours before I got that thing back together. That spring inside there is stronger then all get out, I was shoving down on it with all my weight and my brother was trying to shimy it around to lock it, not an easy job, they really could have put a hex head on there. Have gettin it back together (if you get it apart.)
