5.0 rebuild

I'm planning on rebuilding my 93 5.0 (speed density) in a couple of weeks and had a few questions. I'm planning on getting a set of gt-40 heads and intake, (port & polish, .030 bore over with flat top pistons. Anyone got an idea for a good roller cam without rechipping. I already have longtube headers, any problems seen with the gt-40 heads? I would still like to run right around a 9-9.5 compression, will I have to shave the heads for that?. What kind of hp/tq would I be looking at? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

i think the b303 cam is roller and it is made by ford motorsports in the jegs and summit magizine. the heads bolt right on. i heard that if you take the heads and the intake to the machinist and have him mill them or change the angles of the intake ports on both(they are the same thing)that it will riase compression.

Just use flattop pistons that would put you close to your goal of 9.5:1. I don't recommend using an existing general purpose cam, call a manufacturer of camshafts and have them recommend you a grind and pick the cam last as everything you do from engine to tranny to rearend has an effect on what the cam should or should not do. There are some first generation lightning owners running the roller 302 HO cam in their 5.8's and they seem to like it, how it would perform in your 302 in a truck couldn't say. Look into a cam designed for your truck first, like a comp 4X4 or extreme energy if not a crane powermax. The manufactuer will keep in mind your speed density and provide you a cam with a lobe seperation of 112 + to keep it friendly with your computer. f100guy is right you could mill the heads but if your machinist doesn't care or know what he is doing you may have trouble sealing your intake, so you might opt to go with flattop pistons and keep your gasket thickness in mind when figureing up your compression ratio.
