Dana 60 woes

Working on my buddy jorvis79’s 1979 f250 over the weekend and can not get the rear brakes done due to the rear inner seal for the hub. He ordered the one from Jeff’s bronco graveyard that it says it boils be but it’s way to big. I called them and they were no help, just said that’s what it’s supposed to be so they had no idea. Wondering if anyone else ran into this before. With a tape measure the inner diameter where the seal is on the old seal is roughly 2-5/8, new one is 2-7/8. Overall seal size on the old one is 3-5/8 vs new one 4-1/8. Even where it rides on the axle is 2-5/8 it appears. I’m assuming it’s a Dana 60 because that’s what should be in it and all the brakes on the ends matched the new stuff and fit well. Any ideas are appreciated.

You have the old seal, so why not just get the part number off it?

Type of rear axle makes no difference with axle seals. 1973/79 F250's were available with Dana 60's and Dana 61-1's, but the seal is the same for both.

But...there are TWO different F250 rear axle seals, and a THIRD rear seal for F350 2WD's.

1973/79 F250 2WD & 1973/78 F250 4WD & 1979 F250 4WD before production date 9/18/78: C9TZ-1175-A .. Rear Axle Seal / 3 5/8" O.D. x 2 1/2" I.D.

1979 F250 4WD from production date 9/18/78: D5UZ-1175-A .. Rear Axle Seal / 3 21/32" O.D. x 2 1/2" I.D. x 11/16" thick.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1973/78 F350 & 1979 F350 2WD: C9TZ-1175-B .. Rear Axle Seal / 4 5/32" O.D. x 2 7/8" I.D.

thank you so much for the info, neither of those two seals when googled look like the one we got from jeffs bronco. The second one looks just like the seal that was there. no one seems to make them except maybe Timken. this one says it works with that factory number. thanks again

I seem to recall that the green seal is C9TZ-1175-A that was also used on 1969/72 F250's. The Spicer part number for this puppy is 35313

Try local independent auto parts stores like NAPA .. They can cross the Ford part numbers over to the brands they sell.

I just replaced the seals on my Dana 60. Used Timken 4250. Available from amazon and rockauto.
