Oil Consumption

The truck in question is a '61 F250 unibody with a 223, four speed manual. It just rolled over 100,000 miles, and as far as I know it's the original engine. I'm loosing about a quart of oil every couple hours of driving. It was escaping out the valve cover gasket, but I think that's dealt with now. I've noticed some splashed on the fender, coming out of the dipstick tube, which makes me think excessive blowby pressurizing the crankcase. I don't notice blue smoke on startup, however. Now, otherwise the engine seems to run fine, starts right up when asked, and gets me around. My options right now are to continue driving it or park it until sometime in the murky future when I can afford to overhaul it. Thoughts, anyone? Honestly I'd be happy if I could just seal the dipstick tube and keep the oil in there where it belongs.

Might be time for a leak down test. Do these engines have draft tubes instead of PCV systems? Could that be plugged?

It has a draft tube, which I checked and cleaned out. It wasn't clogged, but it's all cleaned out now.

Are the plugs oily at all? Might be another clue.

Pull a valve cover and see if it's clean or full of sludge.
