Matt... don't stay out of nuthin..... you've got your views and every one of us and the right to express them. I didn't realize the thread would go in this direction when I started it. I was just wondering how it got started. I can ignore the 'in the weeds' look and admire the other custom ideas and tricks of the truck. I went to a car show today with every thing from rat rods to rat volkswagons to beautifully restored stockers to brand new corvettes (never understood the new car showing among classics (but anyway). I found something to appreciate in every car/truck I saw (even the corvette).
I certainly didn't want this thread to go all us vs them deal. It's your truck... build it as your truck, that's what I'm doin. I'll just go sit in the corner and look at my truck
My post wasn't meant to discourage discussions like this. I have just seen a number of threads similar this take turns towards arguments rather than discussions.
John, I figure it's as logical as why some folks prefer blondes or redheads or brunettes. Long hair or short. Etc, etc...
I only know I keep my truck up at stock height with narrow tires to wade thru snow drifts up this way.
It depends on why and how you want to use your vehicles I've owned a lower car (1984 Porsche 944) that was hard to slide a boot under. Done with racing springs for handling. I've also had lifted vehicles (1985 Nissan KC 4x4 that I lifted a total of 4" 2" suspension and 2" body, and was running 33x12.5x15 tires) and two lifted Full size K5 Blazers (1978 Chevy K5 Blazer 4" suspension running 35x12.5x15 Tires & a 1973 Chevy K5 Blazer 2.5" suspension lift with 33x12.5x15 tires) My off-road trucks were used off road and went everywhere I wanted. I like Stock, Hot Rods, and Custom vehicles, I'm not a big fan of Rice Burners or Low Riders but see the workmanship that are put into them!.
My '85 Nissan KC 4x4 had a killer sound system in it, my '78 Chevy K5 Blazer and the '84 Porsche had really good sound systems. I worked for the alarm company that did the work for Orion Industries in the mid 80's when Orion Was great amps and speakers, I also ran Fosgate Amps over the years and knew the people at Rockford Forsgate back in the day. PPI was also in my neighborhood All three where in the Phoenix Valley (Arizona).
To each their own I guess. Out here in my part of the world lowriders are huge obsession. Heck, right now inside the Albuquerque International Airport there is a pretty big lowrider display with several cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. I don't quite understand a lot of the trends of the car hobby but I can appreciate the time and energy that these guys put into their cars. And, the cars are being used and have been saved from the scrap pile.
I'm sure people look at my junk and shake their head thinking that that silly redneck ruined an old truck (all the while I'm looking at their slammed truck and thinking the same....lol).
Bottom line, the old truck/car hobby is a strange and interesting place full of strange and interesting people. If you take a minute or two and talk t some of these folks with "other" styles of builds you'll find that they are people just like us with the same old car obsession. For the record, I'm not a fan of the low profile tires and the slammed look, but then again, I typically use my trucks and need them to be a bit more practical.
Different strokes for different folks...i like the lowered look. Trends come and go like previously stated.iam sure when I get older I wont like the look of hovering cars and wonder where the wheels and tires look went to!
Folks,
I enjoy the build ideas on all the customs. I do like the looks of a nice 48 Ford pick up with a lowered look! I dont have the skills to get one done that way. So I come here to live inside the custom and stock truck world. But I really like the trip to get to the end product. I am currently stuck in Orange tractor land. Just did a nice stock Allis WD45 and am now thinking of a stripped WD antique pulling tractor to have some fun with. These are my "pickup truck" projects! With only 14 tractor of various sizes I guess I have a problem?
Thanks for the comments and pictures. A mild 56 custom would be my dream truck! Maybe someday?
Regards,
Chris
i'm with you, don't care for slammed. i don't even like chrome bumpers, grills or white wall tires. i have mine set with stock springs and a slight rake by having one size smaller tires on the front than the back. it doesn't have skinny 6:00 16s, but a similar height.
