Hey guys I’ve been having this issue for about a year now and it’s not that big of a deal, but I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and fixed it. I have a L1999 RCLB XLT 7.3. Last summer the drivers door latch was sticking open on me so the door wouldn’t shut, obviously. So I simply took the door panel off, shot the latch with some lubricant and worked it back and forth by hand, never had a problem sense. BUT, ever since I did that, I’ve been having a reoccurring issue of like 80% of the time if I open either the drivers or passenger door and then shut it, the dome light and door ajar light stays on for like 15 minutes, and sometimes will come on intermittently. To make it stop, all I have to do is make sure all the doors are shut, turn the key to ignition then turn it back off again and everything shuts off, then I can either start the truck and go, or just get out and carry on if I simply just had to put something in the cab. Like I said it’s been going over for about a year probably longer now, and it’s so simple for me to click the key over and shut it off I don’t care much, but I’m curious if anyone has had this and fixed it permanently?
It is probably the door sensor on one of them...probably the driver's side since you said it was that side you were having trouble with. It is a cheap sensor to replace but kind of a pain in the *** to get at. You have to take the door panel off then take the whole door latch out to get to it. Check the video out for a similar repair. I did this on the passenger side of mine as it would act up when it got wet like from washing the truck. Careful with the tabs that hold the wiring harness to the sensor, they are brittle and I broke one of the two prongs getting it off. Use a long flat blade to gently pry they up enough to slip the harness off.
