I'm gonna try and make my '64 F-100 stepside all wheel drive, but she'll still be fairly low. I'm trying to find and independent front suspension that has a diff that'll be the same width as the 9' in the back. Any help would be appreciated. I can fabricate pretty much anything so it should work. I was wondering what ya'll think think of the idea?
By all-wheel drive, do you mean electronically controlled power to all four wheels at all times, just in varying degrees? Or do you mean you are going to convert this female truck from a good ol' fashioned 2WD to a 4WD?
Either way, sounds like quite the project. Anything's possible, that's for sure!
(I thought all 61-66 trucks were male? Just kidding! )
Well, I'm thinking off true all wheel drive. I'm building up a 428 and hoping to get over 500 hp with a supercharger. I was thinking of using the front differential off a truck and build my own suspension and axles. Then i might be able to use arb lockers all the way around so for driving i have limited slip and for the track i have all four tires grabbing. I'd to use the true electronic all wheel drive but i don't think it would hold up. I dunno, just ideas I really like. I just found a good front clip for it so I have a long time to decide lol
It sounds to me like you're going to build your front-end with custom axles and such. I would LOVE to see it! Might be the highest tech 61-66 ever built!
Consider how you are going to stop this booger! I saw a uni body on an 86 or so 4wd frame and suspension. This truck sat at normal (fairly low) ride height and really did not look like anything special until I realized what the builder had done. This would get you an excellent starting point with modern suspension, brakes, steering, tank in the rear and still retain the flavor of the 64 style. By the way I saw a shorty stepside dually sunday, looked Baaaaad!
