For my 65 F100CC tail lights? I went and bought some 1157's because that was what was in the sockets. However they don't fit right. I can't get them to turn so that the contacts align with the pigtail.
So my question is what size bulb is in the tail light sockets?
Torque 1st is [as usual] 100% on the money! 1157s are the correct bulb. THey only go one way because brake light filiment
burns much brighter than taillamp filament does.
If you hold bulb so as to see both "bayonets" at same time, sticking out from lamp base, you'll see 1 is in a diferent elevation than other.
Install them so bayonets align with correct slot in their socket, that's how they install and when aligned will "twist" in place & lock with slight down pressure.
If you've been doing that, & still can't get them to work right, make sure the sockets, contacts, et al are still in good shape.

I just tried again, and they won't lock into place I have replaced the sockets and the bulbs so everything is new. Guess I'll move to a diff project and come back a little later.
We care and good point! I like 1257's, little brighter, fit the same. The lenses get darker with age and the sob tailgating you may not notice youre stopping. I also wired in series a set of LED's. Plenty of light now, no extra heat and everything works well. Someone has (Cevvie stuff), led plates that replace the bulbs, wish they would do that for the Fords.
