Hello, I have a white 2011 f150 and over the past couple of years the paint on the tailgate has started to bubble and flake off. I've noticed it now on other white f150s also. The dealer says ford doesn't cover paint after 1 year. Anyone else having this issue?

I have a 2014 white truck which is in excellent shape and kept as clean as possible. I basically use it as a car rarely hauling anything and definitely not a work truck. About a year or so so I began to notice tiny rust colored specks all over the tailgate. When I first saw them I thought it was just dust that had blown all over the tailgate. But on further inspection i realized it was rust specks. It looks like someone has been using a metal grinder close by and the sparks have hit the tailgate, though I'm positive this has never happened. I mentioned it to the dealer and was told no warranty on the paint. I'm concerned that it will develop into larger rust spots and peeling paint.
Jalopy, sounds like you have rail dust. It's iron that gets on the road, aerodynamic trucks wind stream pulls it to the tailgate, although it can end up anywhere. A good clay bar will take it right off.
