Is it normal to have such a variance when buying them all at once or is this an indication that they've been replaced at different times? Are those numbers date codes, different manufacturing facility codes, or what? The machining is obviously different so it would seem likely that there are multiple manufacturers making them. My guess is that the one with the numbers running parallel with the body of the plug is older since it has more discoloration, but would like to know. They all have proper resistance, just trying to figure out if I should change them while I'm in there or let them ride. If that one with the totally different number pattern is an old design I might change just that one, if that makes sense to you guys.
I only see Beru on the one, is it on the others? I would agree with your assessment that they are from different years/batches/etc. There was a change in mfg, from Germany to Ireland or visa versa. If they all say Beru on them and test well I'd reinstall them. OTOH, they aren't all that expensive and you may decide to replace them while you're in there.
They all show Beru Germany, 0 100 226 138, and 11v. The variance is 47V, 47T, 32V, 01V, and 02W. A new set is "only" $80, but a dozen "only" $XX parts add up. With 432k there's probably lots of stuff that 'could' be replaced. I'm severely tossed just because I'm this far in.
Notice that T, U, V, and W are all sequential letters in the alphabet. Were the three glow plugs on the right manufactured in the second week of year W, while the two glow plugs in the middle were manufactured in the first week of year V, while another glow plug was manufactured in the 47th week of year V, another on the 32nd week of year U, and yet another on the 47th week of year T?
Week/year makes sense, I've looked at several photos and I haven't seen any over 52. I saw an ad showing a Z, if that is a year code it'll be interesting to see where they go from there. I decided to go ahead & replace them, $79 from Amazon and they'll be here today. I'll post the letters/numbers of the new ones.
I was looking on Ebay earlier and it's shocking how many people advertise aftermarket ones as being OEM, even stating Motorcraft and the Ford part number in the ad, but the plugs generally have nothing on them. I'm tempted to order some just to make those shady sellers have to eat the return shipping. There was one that looked real attractive, bright chrome bling for only $16/set, sexy!
The new ones just showed up, 5 are marked 33B and 3 are 34B. I think Y2K nailed it with the week/year thing. According to Google we're in the 39th week so assuming they're not from last year my plugs were 5-8 years old. I've only had it a couple years so no clue how many miles were on them.
