I have somehow bent an intake pushrod on my 1997 f350 crew cab long box 4x4 dually with a 7.3. It bent the pushrod to almost a 90 and blew the lifter apart and I cant seem to figure out why. I have the head off and there has been no piston to valve contact. Anybody have any idea what would cause this? I don't want to put it all back together to have it blow another lifter apart.
Heres a pic of the pushrod that gave up.
I did find what I think is the problem. The intake valves are completly shot. This must have collapsed the lifter and bent the pushrod. There was a slightly bent pushrod on the drivers side of the motor aswell.
An exhaust valve for comparison. The exhaust valves are pitted but show no signs of being worn like the intakes.
Looks like the top end of the motor needs to be redone. I will probably start a build thread for this truck as im rebuilding it.
