Looking for some advice here. My truck 53 f-100 has the original master cylinder on it. Is there a replacement that i can use that will be compatible with disc brakes later on down the road?. Disc brakes are in my future just not right now.
I am having an issue with the brakes not releasing and my back right tire is dragging. Not locked up but really getting hot on short trips.
Thanks yall!
I'm not sure that you can, though I'll let someone more qualified than me to say so. The hard part is that you'd have to know which master cylinder you need for the future brake system that isn't in there yet, and then see if you can rig it up to work. I know you can get a new stock one from Rock Auto for $55 so it might not be worth messing around with it.
On a side note, are you sure it's the master cylinder causing the problem? The master pushes fluid, it doesn't pull it. It's more likely that you have a wheel cylinder binding up, or that there's a problem with the adjustment wheel on the bottom. They can rust up and stick. A new cylinder is a few bucks, you might try that first. Make sure you haven't lost any springs or something like that. These drums can get sticky. Try some brake lube! (kidding)
