Hi all, I just bought my first ford this weekend, a 2012 F250 Lariat - Love the truck, but not super impressed with the factory SYNC / Stereo.. Can I replace this with an aftermarket system and retain any of the SYNC Functionality? (Like using the phone bluetooth to the truck, backup camera displays on the stereo, also)..
You need an additional communication module to retain some of those functions; but it's generally a possible thing.
On my 2010, I was able to put in a double DIN Kenwood unit; still retains the SYNC phone functions, and the OEM satellite radio tuner - just have to go to the vehicle icon on my headunit and select the "my superduty" option to get to all those items.
As the other poster noted, check Crutchfield - they will list the items needed.
If I wasn't using my MiniMaxx in the OBD port, I could even view OBD data on the head unit - may see if I can get a piggyback plug to see if it will allow dual device communication.....
I upgraded to a Kenwood Unit over 2 years ago, very pleased with it. Crutchfield will have the kit for your needs but do check other sources for the best price on any of the aftermarket receivers. Good place to start is Amazon.
Using a iPhone will require another adapter on some of the aftermarket receivers and in my case I had to use a different mic with the iPhone (may have just been this Kenwood model)
Lots of aftermarket units to go with, so depending on what you want will affect the cost.
I had mine installed by a local audio shop for $200, figured I let them do the install as they do them all of the time.
