Wiring for a 6v flasher

Hi everybody, on my 1954 f100 I'm doing a lot of wiring repairs. The original owner "kind of" swapped it over to 12 volts, which I didn't realize until after I'd started working on it and replacing things with 6 volt parts. Well, at this point, I have enough in it to keep going with 6 volt replacements. The blinker flasher in it right now is a 12 volt model, and it's definitely got a home-wired mess going for it. It has three prongs, but only two of them are hooked up. The 6 volt flasher I'm installing has three prongs as well, but there's no plug remaining under the dash to hook it up to so I'm going to have to set it all up myself. Sooo, does the stock setup require wiring for all three prongs ("X", "L", and "P") in this case? If I'm correct, the x is for power from the "ignition" pole of the key switch, though I saw someplace where it said to hook it up the accessory pole which doesn't make sense to me. The 'L' is out to the switch on the steering column, and the 'P' goes the dash mounted turn signal indicator lights. That part confuses me, as I'd think the dash lights would have to come from the turn signal switch using the same output as the lights themselves as the flasher would light both the left and right lights simultaneously otherwise.

Any help you can offer is appreciated. I'm sure I could eventually figure it out, but I know a lot of you have dealt with this before. Thanks as always!

This may help you. In either case you would have to tap into the appropriate bulb circuit for your indicator lights, that is unless you have factory wiring.

Note: Regular old-school non-electronic flashers are not polarity sensitive.

Thanks, I do have the original wiring, except for where the PO spliced in his own stuff. I think that I just need to use the x and L posts, since I don't have a single light on the dash. It's likely that my dash indicator lights are already wired in correctly, so this might not be as big of a deal as I was thinking. I'll just have to get everything hooked up and we'll take it from there.
