Id the black strip I see a molding or rubber gasket that holds the glass in?
If molding I would remove it, there is a tool used to release the clips that hold the molding before molding can be remove.
Once the molding is off you can see if it gives you access to do what you need to do, if not then the glass will need to come out then too.
If it is rubber gasket and left in place does it give you room to do what you need to do?
If no access then you know the answer .... out it comes.
They make a tool if the glass is butyl taped in like they did on older cars & trucks before they started to flush mount and glue them in.
Thing is if you have never used this tool you can crack the glass and that is a bad thing if you want to reuse it.
Some mobile glass companies will remove it for you for a fee, you do the work needed and they will come back and install it.
On my project it was best for me to remove both front (butyl tape) & rear (rubber gasket) glass but I have done glass work before and have the tools.
Thing is the front glass is to heavy for me by myself so don't know how I will get it back in.

On the 55 of my son's I pulled the rubber gasket and dressed the frame out (sanding good and good primer with activator) and painted it with the glass out then put it back and looks like it should. I have always hated tape marks...its the details that count on paint and body work but on old cars/trucks fixing the rust now is always best for sure.
