Gonna toss this out there because there's not a mod thought of that the members here haven't tried and done. I was looking at the LMC catalog and I see a 38 gallon tank available but only for the 80's Bronco. I think it could be modified for the F150. I've had issues with the dual tank valve and pumps so I thought I'd eliminate the front tank. To make this happen means I install the larger new rear tank to keep the fuel capacity I have now.
My truck is a 1996 F150 Eddie Bauer extended cab, 5.8 automatic 4x4. I know I have to relocate the spare which is not an issue. My biggest concern is this tank requires an exterior pump. The filter, pickup and sending unit and mounts are available from LMC. Also I will take off the tank switch and two way valve, gas lines and all associated hardware. I'm going to Email LMC about the dimensions of the tank and mount info. Knowing I will have to mount a fuel pump on the frame and run new line to the tank and fuel rail I think this is doable.
I'm looking for input from the forum members about issues and what others see that will be required. So, add your .02 and I'll go from there.
I put a 36 gallon tank on my 1990 F150 about 25 years ago. I also had to convert to the earlier 2-pump setup to make it all work. I went to a junk yard and pulled everything I needed off of a wrecked 1988 F150 with single tank (look for a Custom).
Photos are blurred due to them being hosted at Photobucket. Bob did a great job documenting how he did his 38 gallon tank install. So sad he left this world a few years ago.
