Merc52M5
I have only recently been a semi Ford converted guy. I was never anti Ford but I hadn't found the right one for me until now.
I have been looking at older models (early 50's) because they had such fantastic curves and style.
long story short I went to look at an old 1952 M5 Mercury / Ford to use as my work / fixer upper. I get there to look and I always jump right under and look at the frame because that's where the vehicle really tells its story. It was stored in door so luckily being a Canadian truck it was not rotten. The frame was in extremely good condition for the year. I learn it is a tip bed version and has all the hydraulics still. As i am under the truck i tell him sold!
The biggest issue i have is glass. Most of it is broken / cracked or missing. The stainless trim is in great shape. Some body work need but 95% all good metal and what isn't will be cut out and replaced. This is one thing i have found with these older trucks is the metal used is so much thicker and lasts longer than today's vehicles. There was not even any flaking on the frame as all. It looked like minor rust. The wood in the back bed was pretty bad but expected as wood does not last as long even in storage. I picked up F350 axles to convert it to 4wd and a spare cab which came with many extra's.
I will create a build thread for it as well.
Here is my new truck:
Thanks for checking it out and looking forward to the next chapter for this girl.
Chris
Most of the glass is flat yes. I picked up another cab from a 1951 and it has better glass in it but not as good as i would like
The rear window in the other cab has a bullet hole in it lol.I needed the window frame as someone used the tip bed and it caught the cab at the top of the window denting the cab and window frame.
Easy enough fix having the second cab with no damage in that area. Will transplant the undamaged window frame to the cab in the truck.
Thanks
Chris
