So I spent $135 on a Ford ICP because I have read that all of the aftermarket ones were junk. Well it has only been 5 months and my Ford ICP took a crap on me. Is there any aftermarket sensors that are worth buying? I can't see putting out that much every 5 months.
Thanks
I went through 2 or 3 non-OEM ICPs before trying a Motorcraft, been leak and issue free since. How long ago did you buy it? They have a warranty and if you got it from Riff Raff they are real easy to deal with. Might even be 2 years.
I was experiencing hard starting and found the wires to my IPR were looking bad. So I changed the connector and while I was in there I unplugged the ICP to see if there was any oil in the connector hole. There was some. I plugged it back in and started forscan and checked some readings. When I tried to start it, it just cranked and I noticed the ICP reading was not moving and displayed 500. I read that unplugging it would set a default setting and should still start. It still wouldn't start. I finally just changed it with an old sensor I had. It started up before I could even look at all the pids I wanted to see.
I bought it on Ebay. It was still in an unopened bag. I have sent the seller a message about it, but haven't heard anything back.
I sure don't want to spend over a hundred again.
If it didn't start with the sensor unplugged, you have another issue that will return. Keep your old sensor for a spare. Look for chaffed wires around the 42 pin connector. Also check that the tin nut on the IPR is tight.
I checked the tin nut. It was tight. I saw one wire on the 42 connector that was a little iffy. So I ordered a set of VC gaskets, under VC wires and new 42 pin pigtails. If that don't do it, I will try again.
