gas refueling problems

Everytime i get gas for my 79 f150 there is air in the filler neck and i can only get $2 worth of gas in and the gas is overflowing out the overflow. I pretty sure the gas tank isn't full.

I think your problem lies with a plugged vent return line, although my 1/2 ton does this as well if the fuel nozzle is just not in the proper position. I think it could be because of the routing of the filler line to the tank, it's just to flat. I have seen this especially on F350s with flat decks on them, these guys just drive their rear drivers wheel on a small ramp and it fills like a dream. Although its more likely the plugged vent. Hope this helps!
