stuck solenoid?
had a burned off wire at the positive side of solenoid (fusable link wire) spliced new one in---checked it today to move vehicle and start replacing alternator---battery dead. Charged battery--hooked up positive terminal and spliced in wire started smoking---think it's solenoid hung up? Did a lot of cranking on it the other day

Probly your starter solinoid on the fender is stuck, replace it and replace the fusible link with new fusible link.
Those solinoids usually arc and stick due to excessive amperage draw and low voltage.
Check your battery out too after you leave it under a trickl charge over night.

found one of the plugs (big one) on the alternator melted some--pulled it and the small wire quit smoking--may have melted some connectors together to make it go to ground gonna work on this today thanks
