Ive lost my chipped key.. but i have a non chipped one. If the chipped one does not turn up will i be able to use the non-chipped to cut a chipped key and mearly reprogram it?
My fear is having to get all new barrels and locksets..
It's a universal and programmable chipped key. You have it cut to match you key and then it comes with a programming module that you plug into the OBD 2 port to program it with. $89.99 seems worth a shot.

Better yet, get TWO new keys and avoid issues down the road. You WILL have to either have then programmed by someone who knows what they're doing or you will have to learn how to use Forscan (with appropriate hardware) to DIY.
Note to all: It is no longer necessary to send folks to a dealer or locksmith for PATS programming, it can be done with a small amount of hardware (Windows-based platform & OBDII adapter) and free software (Forscan with free extended license).
Alternatively, you can buy a cloned PATS key from certain Lowe's and Home Depot stores, about $50-70.
I bought my 04 F150 in Sept.of 04. Within 1 year I was down to 1 of the chipped keys. Rather than pay the Dealer here in Kailua Kona, Hawaii $150 to fix me up with a new chipped key, this is what I did.... I simply pulled the plastic from under the steering column, Zip Tied my only chipped key as close as possible to the ignition switch, (but not before having 4 regular keys cut at Ace Hardware) replaced the plastic to the steering column. Works perfect now for 14 years. "WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING CHIPS".

Yep, that's what I've referred to as my "redneck PATS bypass" procedure.
You actually do need a chipped key, otherwise, it won't start. This procedure will work just fine right up until something happens that requires a critical component in the system to be replaced, like the PCM. Then, it will be time to pay the piper, so to speak, as reprogramming from scratch requires two available and unique keys. Until then, drive on!
Well I had to fight with the good people at ace to get some regular keys cut and that was 6-7years ago. Now they won't cut a key unless it's in their fancy key scanning computer and if it's chipped they want the $ for the clone. Home cheapo the same way. If you have two chipped keys you can buy blanks, have them cut somewhere and use the truck to program them(4 total). If you have a remote start, you likely have a chipped key hidden in your dash already.
I may be wrong, but I think you can only use the pats system to code two new keys- its in the manual, something like insert key wait for a number of beeps insert new key ect. You may be right tho that there can be up to 8.

That is incorrect. You're confusing the requirement that you have two unique PATS keys in order to program more without resorting to advanced techniques to a maximum number of keys allowed. You might wish to read the owner's manual...
Y'all do know that you can get chipped key blanks new, uncut …. have them cut to match …. and with at least TWO programmed keys in hand, reprogram all (up to 8) keys yourself.
Like say you want to have three or four keys total so you have one for spare at home, one for spouse, one for you, and a spare in your pocket or zip-tied under the truck someplace safe. See Page 143 You have to reprogram all 4 in my example.
You can also reprogram extra remotes as long as you have at least ONE programmed remote in hand. See Page 137
