ID differential

I have a 2001 Sport Trac, 215,000 miles. I plan on changing the rear end fluid. Do I have to look for a tag on the rear end, or can I use the VIN number to figure out what read-end I have? Need to know because if limited slip, i will need the friction modifier. I think 2 quarts should be enough.

It has been a long time since I was on this forum and miss the dedicated Sport Trac Forum.

I think it's on the door tag.

And . . . you could:

1. Block both front tires front and back
2. Lift a rear wheel
3. Put it in Neutral
4. Spin the lifted wheel

If it spins a lot then it's open, if it spins a little then resists then it's limited slip.
