I've worked on the Volvo and Mercedes, and the VW diesels and Perkins and a number of Marine diesels that are all IDI style engines ... mostly I do marine engines now as I'm retired and I get requested at times.... but it's all the same difference ... Crank Fast or no start......
I don`t remember reading about reaming the GP holes on these IDI engines. Or it being a problem.
On the Mercedes I don`t know if the hole in the pre Chamber is smaller and that is why it is more
important to ream them.
I have 7 of them, and have had them since 97. Winter coming on, time to get your valves adjusted.
Have a Datsun Diesel since 10-81, it needed it`s valves adjusted about once a year. never reamed the
GP holes in it. The NGK plug it uses hardly ever gave me any trouble, did change them a few times
in 400K miles.
That was one dependable engine, I use to joke around, "When the German Iron craps out, the Jap Tin
kept on truckin">
