hi, i have 1999 4x4 xlt flare side 4.2l, will new throttle body postion sensor, and a good cleaning fix hih idle? idleing around 1050rpm, never goes down. hard to start sometimes also, cranks wont try to fire until throttle is held to floor. how many items can affect this?
high millege, 263,000.00 plus, v6 sounds good still, never been worked on, no head leaks, no anti-freeze leaks. will any of the body grounds affect how engine runs? iam showing no codes on my simple code reader, o2 sensors seem to be working proper.
Leave the TPS alone. Only way it could cause high idle is by binding the throttle shaft from closing down.
I would remove the Intake Air Controller and clean it with a spray cleaner making sure the spring loaded valve inside is free to move.
Remove the intake air hose so you can see the throttle plate.
Using the same spray cleaner wash off all the built up gum and dirt until it runs out clean then reassemble all the parts. A clean assembly will show the plate is open a small amount. This is normal and by design unless the throttle cable is binding.
If that does not solve the high idle which should have set a code, look at more data with a Scanner to see anything out of normal operating limits. Something would show if the issue is still present.
Normal Idle is 750 +/- 50 rpm.
Good luck.
