I finally got around to changing the passenger side manifold on my 1999 f150 today. I managed to get the old one off and all of the studs out without breaking any but it took most of the day.
Unfortunately the head is extremely corroded. Some places on the mating surface for the gasket look to have pitting at least 1/8 inch deep and there is very little area around the exhaust ports to compress the gasket. I'm assuming this is why the old gasket blew out.
Is there any way to fix this? Special gaskets or sealant etc....? Is it possible to stack two gaskets? I really don't want to change the head on a well cared for engine that runs well and risk getting a reman of unknown quality. Not to mention the fact that to get one from any sort reputable source is about $300 before shipping.
