Double din removal

My 04 F250 has a Kenwood double din radio/nav in it. The radio is given me problems so I would like to take it out. I have the OE radio and would like to put it back in. Have been told that once a double din is install you can not put the factory unit back in, is this true? I do not have the $ to but another Kenwood.

The plastic in the dash behind the radio would have had to been cut out to make room for the new one and if memory serves, the factory radio uses some of it for support. If you know someone who does some fab work or does installs, they can probably make it happen though. Where are you located?

This is a pic from Crutchfield's site. The circled area is probably what is missing.

I'd pull the radio out and see if anything had been modified first. I replaced the OE radio with a double DIN unit in my 2006 and didn't have to modify anything to get a good fitment. Just hope they didn't screw the wiring or plugs up when the aftermarket was installed

A little too far away for me to help you. I'm in Oklahoma.

I'd second what kgburns said. You won't know for sure until you pull it out.
