Hello folks!
my grandfather passed a few years ago. He was a cranky old sailor, and a gearhead. Anything that took gas or diesel he was interested in. In 1989 he ordered an F150, insisted it come from Norfolk, and eventually took home an XLT Lariat with a 351w, loaded, red with white stripe.
After he passed the truck went on loan to my grandmother’s handyman. He beat it up pretty good mechanically. Didn’t do any more damage than the old man did to the body as far as I know, but ran it without coolant, let the vacuum lines rot, rigged some funky wiring, and I don’t think he ever changed the oil. All this to my great protest.
Through a series of events, my grandmother sold the truck to a local mechanic, whom I arranged to buy the truck back for what he paid for it. It barely ran enough to get it on the trailer, and I got it home. I almost have the old girl running strong again. I have rebuilt the top end, redone the vacuum lines, attempted to clean up the wiring, replaced the computer, replaced the brakes, and rebuilt the hubs.
Now that she is almost back in good good shape, I am starting to plan for upgrades! Pop was into going fast, he always bragged about how fast his crew got his destroyer to go when the war in the pacific ended. He designed electrical systems for some stock cars back in the 60s, hot rodded his fishing boat, and had a crazy modified 30s ford tractor to disc his garden with. He just likes to make engines cool. I. His honor I want to make this engine even cooler as well. The truck is an heirloom afterall, and aside from its brief abusive stint with the handyman, has been and will remain in the family.
I will have questions to come, aside from hot rodding a motorcycle or two, I’m a rookie.
