for those of you that dont already know i have a 61 tudor sedan falcon, it was in my family for many, many years, until the wiring in it lit on fire on my mom one day. it was my grandfathers at the time. he was getting it ready for paint at the time when they parked it at my great uncles. it was a while later when i got it, i never quite had the cash to do any thing with it so there it sat. but recently i hve beed working construction on my new school, which pays pretty well for a 17 year old with no bills (yet). so lately i have turned my attention back to the old falcon.
anyways, today me and my dodge buddy went up to see what was still left of the old falcon, and to see if it would start. we hooked up a battery, put only a half a quart of oil in it, and started it cranking with no gas to get some oil up and into it. after a little while of cranking, we dumped in some gas in the carb and nothing, so out came the plugs, we cleaned em, and squirted some oil down into the cylinders, and tried it again, nothing. finally im like (not going to repeat)! i forgot to hookup the power to the ignition! (we were using the remote starter switch) so i hooked i wire from the batt to the ignition wire. nothing. so we checked for spark. got spark. so i took my pop bottle modified with a hose barb that is used to prime carbs and filled the carb full. we hit the ignition and presto! that little 144 six fired for the first time in 20 years! it even sounded healthy too!
I really had to rub it into matt (the dodge guy helping me) cause my falcon started for the first time in 20 years after 30 minutes of tinkering, while it took over a day to get his chrager that sat for 3 years to run(and it still doesn't sound as good as that little six)
next i would have saved up about 1200-1300 dollers. i already have tires and front buckets, granada suspention/brakes. so i am going to put the rest into the interior and body. i think that all that 144 needs is a good tune up.
Have you SEEN those older Falcons when fixed up ?!?!?!
Sweet looking - even in the movie Ocean's 11 , the closing scene is them driving off in a Falcon convertible...
And slip a 289 in there ... and they move VERY well
oh i have seen lots of the old falcons built up and or restored, very nice, i hope mine turns out just as good as some of em. and i own oceans 11 (which is a good movie anyways) so i do know about the blue 63 vert they drive in the end
my bird is either going to get a turbo 200 or a 5.0 HO w/gt40heads. toss in a toploader and a locker an know were talkin'!
Didn't ford put 406's in those, or am I thinking of a larger car. DUDE, I just realized: Altered wheelbase dragster! DO it, do it now!!!! It'll rock, I promise.
