Hi folks, I just purchased a 1976 Bronco and need some help. The truck runs well until I run it for a while in 3rd gear. The Bronco starts to cut out - like a fuel filter issue - but I just changed the fuel filter and the issue is still happening. It’s episodic - sometimes it runs fine, sometimes it starts to cut out in 3rd gear. Any suggestions?
Could be the fuel pump itself going out, especially if it still as a stock style mechanical pump. These pumps are mechanically driven off of the engine and if the diaphragm gets old they loose vacuum and won't draw from the tank. Also need to look at the hoses and fuel lines them self, if the metal line has been hit it could be restricting flow. Any leakage in the suction line and low or now fuel flow.
If it does better when it's cooler out then it's most likely a pump issue. Cooler temps means denser fuel easier to pump, warmer thinner fuel and harder to pump.
