Unhappy Clutch/starter switch adjustment?

1989 F-250 4x4, 5.0 5 speed. I have to STAND on the clutch pedal to get the safety switch to engage and the starter to spin. No mat under the pedal, just the factory carpet. Tried looking up in there to find a switch of some sort, but wasn't successful. I read this switch wasn't adjustable?? Any help greatly appreciated. TIA.

The switch on my 93 is a tube type thing that fits over the clutch rod, it is loose and sometimes moves about, meaning I just try starting truck without pushing the clutch in. Sometimes I still have to push it in anyways. It fastens to the firewall with a pitiful catch type latch. There is a coating on the clutch rod that the sensor in the switch reads to know it's position. I'm going to put a cable tie on it someday so I won't have to push the clutch in anymore to start it.
Also the rod for the clutch is to the right of the brake pedal on a 93, don't know about yours.

I have seen the bushings in the end of the pedal assembly wear enough that the clutch rod does not push in far enough to work the safety.

Yes, and that also can cause the clutch rod not to have enough travel to properly operate the clutch. Napa and the rest sell packs that will have the right one.
