That's some pretty vague information. Pretty sure the truck has to have some specific equipment/modules from the factory. i don't think you can just put an app on your phone and remote start the truck.
I believe you must have the remote start option, the ability to use the key fob to start the truck. And you must have the cellular option to use the app to remote start the truck.
I’m sure someone with more knowledge about the tge system will chime in.
Your right .When i ordered my xlt I had to get the 4g modem I think so the app communicates with the truck. But i have seen where you can add the remote start to the truck after.Search remote start.

I added the older style Ford Remote Access to my 2017 for cell phone starting. But it required a couple of modules and a $50 per year subscription. But the software company behind the app was Canadian so my credit card got charged $39 after exchange. The subscription now appears to be managed by VoxxAutomotive.
I also added an antenna and 2 way fob for better range when for starting when I'm closer to the vehicle.
ForScan will allow you to turn on the remote start feature, but you will need to install a hood switch and get the key with the button programmed. It’s not “free” but not dealer pricing for installation.
I think if a salesman told me that I could simply download something and get free remote start, I would have made them walk me through it and get it done before leaving the lot. Put him/her on the spot to back up their claim.

I have an STX and I can start the truck with the Ford Pass app on my phone. My key does not have the start button and Lock-Unlock-Lock will not start the truck either. I would like to be able to start the tuck from the key, for I do not always carry my phone. The truck already has the hood switch. I have a buddy that does the forscan, do you happen to know the modules and fields that need to be turned on? Also I would need the key that has the start button on it?
i was told after i installed mine that you could turn it on thru forscan, i have not confirmed this so i can not say for sure.
but this is what i do know.
i ordered from amazon a remote start called startx.
it is completely plug and play and uses factory remote. i press lock-unlock-lock and with a little delay it will start.
i verified the hood pin by popping the hood and then sticking the key in the ignition and turned to on to see if i would get a message in the cluster. i did, so i went with the startx that did not include the hood pin.
installation was very easy, had it done with in 20 minutes, as a matter of fact the wife left to get dinner while i stayed home to install it, i was done before she got home. long story short, i installed the remote start and did not have to pay for dinner.. win win for me!
let me know if you have any questions, i would love to be able to contribute to the group!
AMC, thanks for reply. I added startx to my 2019 f150 company rig and it works great. I turned off the horn honk with forscan so it doesn't make a bunch of racket early in the morning. My thought was that if my f250 already has start and just need to be programmed and add a new key it would be about the same money as adding the startx. Really just trying to confirm that someone has done this before spending money on new keys.
